Meraki Espresso Machine FAQs

Find answers about choosing Meraki, setting up your machine, brewing espresso, cleaning and care, shipping, and service.

Choosing Meraki

Do I need a separate scale?

No separate scale is needed for Meraki’s built-in dose and yield controls. One scale measures coffee during grinding, and the other measures espresso during brewing. The machine can stop each process when your selected target weight is reached.

A separate scale can still be useful for other tasks, such as weighing beans before filling the hopper or measuring ingredients for coffee recipes.

How does Meraki compare with a separate espresso machine and grinder setup?

Meraki espresso machine brings the grinder, espresso machine, and two scales together in one system. You can grind to a target dose, brew to a target yield, and follow the process on the touchscreen without moving between separate devices.

A separate setup gives you the flexibility to choose and replace each component independently. Meraki offers an integrated alternative for users who want grinding, brewing, and weighing in one coordinated workflow. You still adjust your recipe to suit your beans and taste.

How is Meraki different from other all-in-one espresso machines?

Most all-in-one machines are built around convenience — they lower the barrier to entry by simplifying the process. That simplicity comes at a cost: entry-level hardware, limited temperature control, and a ceiling on what the machine can actually produce.

Meraki espresso machine is built around a different goal: the repeatable shot. That means professional-grade hardware — dual boilers, a rotary pump, a dedicated grinder — combined with a system that controls the variables that actually determine shot quality. The result isn't just easy. It's better.

What accessories are included with Meraki?

Meraki includes the main tools for preparing espresso and steaming milk, including a portafilter, tamper, milk pitcher, dosing cup, coffee distributor, and cleaning tools.

Check the included-accessories list on the product page for the exact contents of your selected package. Promotional bundles and optional accessories may be listed separately.

Setup & First Use

What kind of water should I use?

To ensure optimal performance and extend the life of your Meraki, we advise using filtered water with hardness below 60 PPM or TDS below 200. While tap water meeting these specifications is usable, untreated tap water can introduce microorganisms, causing odors and making cleaning difficult. For long-term health and convenience, bottled or a reliable home filtration system is preferred.

What should I pay attention to during the initial use of the coffee machine?

To achieve optimal extraction performance, please ensure the water tank is filled before brewing.

Securely lock the portafilter into place by following these steps: After inserting the portafilter into the group head, turn it counterclockwise until it firmly locks. Note that the logo on the machine does not need to be aligned; it should not be used as an alignment marker for the locked position. With regular use, the portafilter fit will become smoother over time.

What size is the package I’ll receive, and how can I open the box correctly?

The package dimensions are 500 mm(L) x 500 mm(W) x 470 mm(H), and it weighs 20 KG. To help you get started, the Meraki Quick Start Guide provides step-by-step instructions.

Brewing & Machine Features

Can I brew espresso and steam milk at the same time?

Yes. Meraki has separate boilers for brewing and steaming, so you can extract espresso and steam milk at the same time.

This is useful when preparing milk drinks: you can work on the espresso and milk together without switching a single heating system between brewing and steaming temperatures.

Does Meraki use PID temperature control?

Yes, the Meraki espresso machine uses advanced PID technology for precise temperature control, ensuring consistent, flavorful espresso. The PID system, combined with a dedicated group head heater, maintains optimal brewing temperature at the portafilter, giving you professional-level results with every shot.

Does the Meraki work with my country's voltage?

The Meraki will be configured to match your shipping destination automatically. Please note that the Meraki is not dual-voltage.

  • 110-120V / 60Hz (default for US, CA)
  • 220-240V / 50-60Hz (default for EU, AU)

How do I use CoffeeSense™?

To use the CoffeeSense™ feature, simply swipe the Meraki coffee bean bag, which is equipped with an NFC chip, on the NFC area of the Meraki machine. The machine will automatically recognize the coffee beans and provide the corresponding suggested grinding and extraction parameters. On the touchscreen, tap the buttons to start the grind and extraction process.

Combined with two built-in scales for grinding and extracting, the machine will automatically stop the grinding and extraction process once the desired quantity is reached.

How long does it take to heat up?

The heat-up time is around 3 minutes for the 220-240V version and around 4 minutes for the 100-120V version.

What is the boiler capacity?

The Meraki espresso machine is equipped with dual boilers. The capacity of the extraction boiler is 350ml, while the capacity of the steam boiler is 550ml. Both boilers are made of stainless steel.

What is the maximum weight capacity of the scale?

The Meraki espresso machine features dual scales, with each scale having a maximum capacity of 1kg.

Cleaning & Care

How do I backflush my Meraki espresso machine?

Use the blind basket and follow the backflushing instructions in the Product Manual. Open Cleaning Mode on the touchscreen and complete each prompt, including the rinsing steps.

How do I clean the group head?

For group head cleaning, remove visible coffee grounds from the shower screen and the area where the portafilter seals, using a suitable group head brush. Surface cleaning and backflushing serve different purposes. Brushing removes accessible residue, while the approved backflush procedure cleans parts of the brew path that a brush cannot reach.

How should I clean the built-in grinder?

Switch off and unplug the machine before manual grinder cleaning. Follow the Product Manual to access the removable parts, then use a dry brush to remove accumulated grounds. Keep water, damp cloths, and liquid cleaners out of the burr chamber and grinding mechanism. Follow the instructions carefully when reassembling the grinder.

How should I clean the steam wand after steaming milk?

For steam wand cleaning, wipe the steam wand immediately with a clean, damp cloth, then briefly purge it using the normal steam control. Keep your hands clear of the hot wand and steam outlet.

Is backflushing the same as descaling?

No. Backflushing removes coffee oils and residue from the group system. Descaling addresses mineral deposits in the water system.
