Blind Basket

Blind Basket

The Meraki blind basket is a solid stainless steel insert used for cleaning rather than brewing. By blocking the normal outlet, it allows a compatible espresso machine’s cleaning cycle to circulate water—and approved cleaner when instructed—through the group system.

Install it in the portafilter and follow the exact backflushing procedure in the machine manual. A blind basket is not a coffee basket and should never be used to pull a shot. Pair it with the Barista Cleaning Brush or review the complete Meraki Espresso Machine workflow.

FAQ

What is a blind basket used for?

It blocks water flow through the portafilter so a compatible espresso machine can be backflushed.

Can I brew coffee in a blind basket?

No. It has no outlet holes and is intended only for the approved cleaning procedure.

How do I backflush with it?

Place it in the portafilter and follow the machine manual's cycle, timing and cleaner instructions exactly.

Is backflushing the same as descaling?

No. Backflushing cleans the group and valve path; descaling addresses mineral buildup in the water system.

How often should I backflush?

Frequency depends on usage and the manufacturer schedule. Follow the current Meraki maintenance guidance rather than a universal interval.
